HANDS ON HEALING INSTITUTE

SCHOOL OF MASSAGE

Who we are; what we stand for.

HHI is a holistic school teaching the connection of the mind, body and spirit to facilitate healing.  We believe that just learning the technique of massage is not enough to facilitate healing.

Throughout the CMT150 Program you will be taught how to connect to and help facilitate healing in your client through:

                   Proper touch

                   Grounding

                   Centering

                   Being totally present

                   Setting the right intention

You will be learning from teachers who practice what they teach and love sharing their knowledge.

We have created a loving, safe environment for you to learn and grow…spiritually, emotionally and physically.  You will learn much about yourself, your bodies and your emotions.  Our students tell us that their experience at HHI is life changing. I often have heard our therapists say they feel as good as their clients after giving a massage.

So, if you want a profession that enables you to help others while helping yourself, massage therapy is right for you.

Our continuing education offers over 1,800 hours of advanced electives so you can add to your certified hours, continue your education and understand more fully the mind, body, spirit connection to facilitate healing.  The choices of what modalities and how many hours of training you wish to accumulate are up to you.

You can help change the world one client at a time.

Blessed be,

CMT150 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Anatomy & Physiology

A basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology is necessary in learning the theory and practice of therapeutic massage.  Students will study the structures and functions of the human body in order to know when, where, and how to apply massage movements for the most beneficial results.  These classes are presented in a way that makes it easy and fun for the student to learn.

Swedish Massage

Massage therapy is an ancient healing art. Classes focus on the power of touch, how massage affects mind, body and spirit, helps to facilitate the body’s healing process, and the indications and contraindications for massage.

The emphasis of the practical training is a 55-minute and a 90-minute, full-body Swedish massage routine.  The five basic Swedish strokes are taught:  effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration and tapotement, and their variations. Students will not only learn the basics of massage, but will be encouraged to develop their own style.

Interrelated topics are also taught during Swedish classes including: meditation as a tool for massage therapists to help in calming the mind and focusing before a session, breathwork techniques and guided dialogue to expand your capacity for freedom, power, and joy, and movement awareness gives you a conscious experience of lasting ease and relaxation in your body.  Both are needed to be able to help others through massage and deep tissue work.

INTRODUCTIONS TO THE FOLLOWING MODALITIES:

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of skillfully integrating essential oils in a wide variety of application methods and treatment forms to prevent illness, and to enhance and maintain physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. Aromatherapy, in common with all holistic therapies, seeks to strengthen the body’s own innate, self-healing ability.

Business Practices, Marketing & Ethics

This class gives students the skills needed to begin and promote a successful massage practice.  Just some of the subjects discussed:  business cards, licensing, places of possible employment, types of clients you would like to work on and much more.  This is the class where all your questions get answered.

Chair Massage

Basic techniques of chair massage and a “15-minute” therapeutic chair massage routine will be demonstrated and practiced.  Simple business ideas for massage will be discussed and students will learn First Aid tips for chair massage. This modality is becoming highly popular and can be offered on-site at offices, health food stores, marathons, schools, and more.

Structural Bodywork

This class introduces a therapeutic model of bodywork, a category referred to as structural bodywork. It introduces the student to a specialized approach to doing deeper massage work. This work can stand alone as modalities like deep tissue, myofascial release and sports massage or can be integrated into a wellness massage such as Swedish massage. Benefits can include increased range of motion, ease of movement, improved posture, increased healing of injured areas, and increased athletic performance.

Energy Awareness

This class is an introduction into the field of energy medicine. Topics discussed in class will be different views of what health means to us, the chakra system, acupuncture and meridian theory, and the auric field.  This class will also discuss how energy balancing addresses the whole person:  mind, body and spirit.

Music & Massage

This innovative class focuses on an important element of a professional massage therapist’s practice:  the music.  Experience the effects of various genres of music on freedom and style of body movement, fluidity, emotion, and memory.  Learn invaluable information about how music affects our movement and flow.

Trigger Point Therapy

This class explores deep tissue approaches by using trigger point release and neuromuscular reeducation to enhance a therapist's approach to massage. Theory and practice allows you to explore the body's anatomy and physiology as you learn to encourage muscle release through gentle touch.

*Upon completion of our CMT150 program, graduates are offered the opportunity to participate in our Certified Advanced Skills Program.

Advanced Skills Program I

*$300 Supply Pack included. Textbook not included.

The students must have faculty approval in order to participate in the advanced skills program.

This is a great opportunity for students to acquire hands on experience and develop a professional attitude concerning such things as punctuality, appearance, confidentiality, completing a massage within a given time frame, draping, making, confirming and canceling appointments, maintaining client files, and record keeping and communication skills through client contact.  This supervised clinical practice, allows the student to develop their unique style and technique in a safe environment while adding to their certified hours.

Prerequisite: CMT150 and program managers’ approval.

*NOTE:  A 50 hour elective would normally cost $600.00)
